Our thoughts and prayers are with the Salisbury Fire Department, Salisbury NC and the families of Firefighter Victor Isler and Firefighter Justin Monroe who died while fighting the fire listed below.
We hope Captain Rick Barkley has a complete recovery.
What is a firefighter?
He's the guy next door....
He's a guy like you and me with warts and worries and unfulfilled dreams.
Yet he stands taller than most of us.
He's a fireman....
A fireman is at once the most fortunate and the least fortunate of men.
He's a man who saves lives because he has seen too much death.
He's a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control.
He's responsive to a child's laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again....
He doesn't preach the brotherhood of man.
He lives it.

This past week all nine of the paid staff attended the NC Rescue Technician Trench Specialty course. This class covers the OSHA 1926 standard for working at excavations, the regulations for trench work and rescue, and basic trench rescue operations. The firefighters learned the types of trenches as well as types of collapses, hazards, and safety working in the trench rescue environment. The firefighters studied basic shoring techniques for different types of trenches. This class covered using various types of shoring such as manual timber construction to the faster more efficient air shore technique.
Congratulations to all our paid staff for completing this course and adding another certification to an astounding resume!
